Frequently asked Questions
The Mediterranean is a large charter destination. If you charter a vessel that is located in the Mediterranean, your charter fees and expenses will all be in Euros due to the location.
The most difficult thing for clients is getting their group together on the same schedule, which is why most people like to plan a year in advance. However, I have seen clients book a couple of weeks away from their charter dates. I guess it depends on how solid your group is on committing to travel together on agreed upon dates.
That Yacht Charters are unattainable and only for the Uber-Wealthy, which is not true at all. The most popular and affordable yacht charters are the Catamarans. Their price is normally “all-inclusive” and has very little fuel or docking expenses as the motor yachts have.
97% of clients do book the entire week, which is 7 nights and 8 days. Keep in mind, the first and last days on the charter are not full days (they are considered “travel days”). Which means you really have 6 full days on board. Most yachts will accept less than a week charter, but have a minimum of 3 or 4 nights on board.
Payments are typically 50% deposit when the Charter Agreement is signed. The remaining 50% is due 30-45 days prior to your charter start date. If your charter is a year out, we can accept 25% down with signed agreement, 25% due 3 months later, and the remaining balance due 30-45 days prior to your charter start date. The Charter Agreement explains the payments and the payments to the owner, which is why you need to use a reputable charter company like Top Yacht Charters to ensure the contract is followed correctly and all disbursements of funds are made in a timely manner.
How do charter brokers get paid - could I get the boat cheaper if I went directly to the boat owner or operator?
The owner of the yacht pays the charter broker. The yachts are all under a listing agreement, similar to using a real estate agent. They are under contract to hire charter brokers to sell their boat for charters.
